Hi,
I am at present trying to get as much information on the surname , it
appears that no one has ever done this before ! , I go to the Coventry
records office about twice a week and was a bit shocked that they have
not got a report/thesis on the surname, being a member of the Coventry
Family History Society I ask Roger Vaughan (the cities Archivist) about
the information required (Oh they will be going on line very soon ) and
have made it my next project , the last was collecting all the strays
from the 1881 census who where born in Coventry and moved away from
Warwickshire before the census , it took 3 years ! (^o-) and I found
over 12,000 of them covering the whole country.

The surname goes (so far) back to the Norman conquest of England 1066
when the French took over they had their own people in each town so you
got Robert of ( or La/e ) Coventry ,unless of course someone out there
knows better.

If any one wants a copy of the article printed in the Coventry Family
History Society Journal on the surname let me know.

My web sites at http://www.covkid.force9.co.uk/ there are lots of
photos , etc of Coventry
