My COVENTRY line
Robert Coventry

1st generation
Robert Coventry and wife Janet Cunninghame were found in the parish records
of Glasserton,
Wigtown, Scotland starting about 1700. Tradition put their marriage and the
birth of one or more
of their children in Midlothian, Scotland, but those records have not yet
been found.

2nd generation
1,7 George Coventry served in Scot regiments fighting the French in the low
countries 1645. He
was also stationed at Gibraltar in 1649. In 1757 he came to America as an
officer in Lord Howe's
regiment to battle the French. He next commanded a New York Colonial company
in battles with
Spain at Kingston and Havana. In 1761 he sold his commission and with his
brother William
bought 2000 acres on the Hudson river near Claverack NY. In 1762 He left the
estate in the hands
of his brother and returned to Scotland to settle affairs there and to move
his family. Several reverses prevented the move and he died in Scotland.
George was married to Jean Crie or Cree. Marriage record not found yet.

3rd generation
1,7,2 Alexander Coventry studied medicine at Glasgow and Edenborough and
received his
degree. He sailed to New York in 1785 to settle his father's estate and start
a practice. He was
first in Hudson, NY for about 8 years then moved to Romulus, NY. As the
family experienced
much sickness and discontent there, about 1798 he moved to the Utica, NY area
and opened an
office. In 1804 He build a home in Deerfield, NY. He was a well known
Physician in central New York and lectured at several medical schools.
In 1787 he married Elizabeth Butler of Branford, Ct

1,7,2,5 Alexander Coventry was trained in the development of orchards and
spent his life in that
pursuit, first in Deerfield, NY until 1866 when he moved to Canterbury Hill
north of Rome, NY.
Alexander married Laura Baird in Deerfield and they had the following

5th generation
1,7,2,5,4 Alexander Coventry was trained in the development of orchards and
followed that trade
all of his life. He worked with his father for several years, but when there
was a boom in orchards
in Michigan he went to catch the wave. He married Ada Abbe there and stayed
until after his
father died. He returned to NY to take over his father's orchard operation.

the postal service
as a letter carrier for 40 years. At the same time he operated a general
farm north of Rome NY.
He married Inez H Colburn.
