Hello
Looking for information about Perry Burgess and family, early pioneer of Steamboat Springs. Perry has written several well know diaries during the Montana goldrush and his early years in Steamboat Springs. Would like to have any information published in old history books about Perry. In 1880 Perry worked for the Milner Bank, the Milner bank was a Cheney family bank. His cousin Charles Cheney, owner of the First National bank of Boulder invested in the Milner bank and his mother was a Milner as well.
Would like to know where the old Milner Bank building is located, which Perry was listed as a cashier in 1880 shortly after its creation. Not sure if this is the original bank in one of the other buildings such as the first national? Can someone advise the location in 1880? I know there is a town of Milner a few miles away, but I am not sure how this relates to the Milner family who married into the Cheneys and worked with this bank.
Also, I am looking for Perry Burgesses homeplace. I know Burgess Creek is named after him, but not sure where exactly he lived or if his home is under a resort now? I know he was one of just a couple of original homesteaders, settling in the area about 1875.
If you are a descendant of the Burgess, Cheney or Milner family please contact me. I am a descendant of the Cheney family will be writing a thorough book concerning these families including their history in Steamboat Springs and Boulder. I have many details, and several old photos as well.
I will be traveling to the area in December and would like to take pictures of the sites related to these families.
Many thanks in advance for your help!!
