Although you are quite right in your suggestion, and I agree entirely, you may
be surprised at how far many people travel for the AGM (which, incidentally,
is held in Newquay, and not Truro) including those from abroad who incorporate
it as part of a holiday, and those who make the journey from elsewhere in the
UK. The AGM itself is just part of a residential weekend in a hotel, and I
believe, the only FHS AGM in the country which is not a one day event. Lots
of good food, interesting people, interesting talks - the best excuse for a
weekend away. Of course, not everyone is able to travel to the weekend every
year, and it is also up to the individuals to choose whether they just attend
the meeting itself, or a particular morning or afternoon event, or whether
they book in from Friday through Sunday. There were people who came on Sunday
who I didn't see at the AGM on Saturday, for whatever reason (probably work
commitments). And certainly don't underestimate the number of elderly people
who attend (I didn't do a head count, and I expect to get my wrists slapped
for saying this - I exclude fellow list members who were in attendance from
this generalisation - but nearly everyone there was elderly!!)
Are you copying all your helpful suggestions to the CFHS itself, because
nothing is likely to be done about them if you are just going to share them
with the Cornish-L list. As I said before, no organisation, CFHS or
otherwise, can consider suggestions if they haven't heard the suggestions in
the first place.
With best wishes
Alison, in Truro
