............ is very un-Cornish, you know!
I've have just opened three days' worth of mail, having had a wonderful
weekend at the Cornwall Family History Society Annual Conference and AGM, and
having met some wonderful, happy and exceptionally helpful people, and you're
still all going on at each other.
If anyone asked me to sum up the Cornish as briefly as I could, it would be
that they are stoical and they have a tremendous sense of humour. The two go
hand in hand, and you only have to look back at your own ancestors and the
hardship most of them had to endure to realise that these are survival
qualities.
OK, so when the going got tough, many of them got going, and endured even
worse hardships travelling abroad to new lives, which were often initially
harder than the ones they had left behind, and they still came out smiling.
Incidentally, I met some fellow Cornish-L members this weekend - Rick Parsons,
Bill Stephens, John Symons (I hope I haven't missed anyone, but I met so many
people, and learned so much, that my brain is truly fried this evening). It's
marvellous to meet people face to face. Everyone was so interesting to talk
to, and although I didn't directly achieve anything regarding my own research,
I have learned a great deal.
If any of you haven't yet joined the Cornwall Family History Society, and are
wondering whether or not to do so, may I say it is a truly excellent Society,
with friendly and helpful members, and marvellous resources, which are growing
almost daily.

With best wishes
