Hi, John,
If your fingers are up to it, and if Marilyn doesn't shut us both up
<GG>, I very much enjoy your postings concerning indetures. Although I
haven't found one from my family, I do have some informaiton I can add.
Susanna BUZZA, bp 6 Nov 1791 in Kenwyn, was indentured the 7th day of
June 1804, when she was 13, to learn the Art and mystery of Hosewifery
until the age of 21 years. She was indentured to Squire William TWEEDY
of Truro. At the time of Susanna's indenture the TWEEDY fmaily had just
moved down from London and invested in the mines. They were merchant
bankers and opened banks at Truro. What an experience for a girl of 13
to move to a house where she had a room of her own, a bed, washing
facilities and food all found and things she could never have imagined.
Of course she was away from her family, but she must have done well, for
she was released from her indenture to get married (to William BURLEY on
1 Oct in Kenwyn) in 1821. The BURLEYS moved to Australia, but I have
no further record of them.
Your efforts are not unappreciated. Thanks very much.
Very best regards,
John
