Subject: British CD vs IGI

Dear List,

The broadcast that is supposed to have some details on the new British
Vital Records CD is a week off, but through a fairly reputable source
(local Family History Center Director) I've heard that the names
contained on the CD will not be placed wholesale in the International
Genealogical Index(IGI). Due to flack over the method by which names are
extracted and placed in the IGI, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day
Saints may stop the practice of taking every name from church or other
vital records sources for direct placement into the IGI. The Vital
Records CD's (British and American) are the result of recent extraction
projects, which will continue, but none of those names will be placed
into the IGI unless they are submitted by individuals. Hopefully more
info to come.

Keri-Lynn
