I am researching the name CULLUM which is the name of my great grandfather.
His name was THOMAS FRANCIS CULLUM. He married HARRIET RETALICK in the Parish
Church,Lawhitton, Cornwall on August 5, 1851. The marriage certificate gives
the grooms parents as THOMAS FRANCIS CULLUM [the same as the groom] and
HARRIET LITTLO and the brides father as RICHARD RETALICK . These family names
are Cornish and I have assumed that my great grandfather was also. However, I
could be mistaken. His career was with the Coast Guard from which he retired
as a Chief Officer. As he was approximately twenty-eight years of age when he
married, he could quite well have come from elsewhere and been posted possibly
in Cornwall at that time.
I have been unsuccessful in locating any information on my great grandfather
or particularly of his or his wifes parents or their siblings. My most recent
endevours have been via the 1841 census allthough my census information was
not complete.
I would like very much to find more information prior to a planned research
visit to Britain in 1999. Is there anyone out there who could help me or
direct me to the best resources for this search?
In appreciation
Ron Reid, Victoria, B. C.
