I have recently acquired the death certificate of a Henry Hamley (who I
hope is my GGGrandfather). It shows that he died on the 8th September
1866 in the County Prison, Bodmin. He was aged 45 and his occupation
was given as a Tailor.
As a result of this I have 2 questions which I hope can be answered by
more knowledgeable people than me on the List.
1. If Henry died in prison as a prisoner, would his occupation have
been given as (in this case) Tailor or would it have been given as
"prisoner (or whatever)?
2. If he was a prisoner, are there any prison/trial records available
pre-1866 that can be checked?
It is stated that he died of natural causes and an inquest was held on
the 10th September 1866. The Cornwall Records Office tell me that no
records survive and I will have to check the newspapers for any
reports. Can anyone help me in this respect?
Many thanks.
Brenda
