Subject: Saffron Buns AND Vegemite! - no Gene relevance
Date: Sun, 01 Nov 1998 16:46:23 +0800
Hello List,
Being the lousy cook that I am, I decided to have a go at making saffron
buns as per the recipe page. I had expected them to be sweet - a bit like
a cinnamon bun I guess, but not so - well not the one I made anyway. I
believe that some have fruit and others do not. Think I shall try again
going for the sweeter recipe next time. HOWEVER, I must confess that I
tried a slice with just a smidge of vegemite to give it an Aussie flavour
and it was actually quite nice!! <g> Having said that I must explain that
I do not like thick wads of vegemite, rather a very thin smear.
I thought that if I could master the art of Saffron Buns I could volunteer
to bring them to the Christmas Party!
Speaking to my Mum today about them she said that her Auntie in Moonta made
the best ever saffron Buns and always won the prizes at the local shows
with them. She would spread them with melted butter and sprinkle brown
sugar over the top prior to cooking and added currants to them. So by the
time Xmas arrives I may have them down to a fine art!!
