It is my understanding that the Colley surname comes from a placename near
Glochester, England. According to Glouchester webpage, the name was first used
by Robert "Old Colley" DeCowley who was a Bailiff of Dublin in 1515. Robert
"Old Colley" was the ancestor of the Duke of Wellington who defeated Napolean
at the Battle of Waterloo. Robert "Old Colley" DeCowley may have been a
descendant of England's King Henry II (1133-1189) aka DeCowley. If so, then his
ancestors also included the Plantaganet kings of England and William the
Conqueror (ca. 1025- 1087).
