Hi,
Being out of the loop for a couple of weeks has really put me behind in
responding to many of the messages that have been posted. This messages
raises a question I have had for years, and maybe someone can answer it for
me.

So far, every researcher (and cousin) who is descended from Robert
Chumbley has the same information as to who his children are. I guess we
are all passing the info around to each other. I have spent a lot of years
collecting info from everyone else, and now that I am trying to document
this information, I'm really puzzled as to what are the source(s).. Does
anyone know the source for the children of Robert & Betsy Chumbley? Did
Robert leave a will? From what little info I was able to uncover from court
records in Tennessee, Robert Chumbley appeared to have little or no
property. I found my ancestor, John Chumbley, suing him for money Robert
apparently owed him. Robert's horse, and bed were held in trust (by ano
son, I'll have to look it up but off the top of my head I think it was
Lewis) for one year. If the loan was not paid up by then, Robert would
lose his bed and horse. Unfortunately, I was never able to find the outcome
in any court records. Robert left Tennessee in the late 1840s and was
living in Polk Co., MO with his daughter, Malinda, and her husband John
Slatton/Slatten and children. John died in 1850. I'm wondering if Robert
decided to skip out on the debt and left for MO with the Slattens. I
haven't looked for any land records or a will in Polk County as yet. Can
anyone answer this for me?

Also, I have received info over the years that John Chumbley's middle
name was Henry. I have never found one record mentioning the name Henry or
even the initial "H". Is this just info that has been handed down or does
someone know of the source?

The same goes for John Chumbley's son Samuel. So far, every record I have
seen only mentions the middle name of Chandler, but some
researchers/cousins also show Clemens. I know I have not seen every record
in existence, but I haven't found the name Clemens. In what records am I
not looking?

It's kind of funny, in that the majority of us have not been able to
prove the parents of Robert Chumbley, and yet I have received info from
other cousins that this Robert is the son of John and Elizabeth (Dickens)
Chumbley, who in turn is the son of John Chumbley and Martha Lockett. But,
no sources are ever noted. I have seen info in the DAR indexes that this
John Chumbley (husband of Martha Lockett) served in the Revolutionary War
and moved to Indiana, where he died. His will does not mention any children
as I recall.

For many years, this has been my goal to document the above info. Maybe
with all of us out there, we can eventually figure it all out. Does anyone
have any theories about this?

Happy Hunting...
