You may be interested in the following statistics from the 1891 census on
Ancestry.com

There are currently: -

CHILVERS1400
CHILVER 175
CHILVES 6

and a few CHIVERS which are actually CHILVERS on the image.

The 1871 census is being loaded but so far only 6 counties are available and
the indexing on those is incomplete.
