"The Chapin Book" has the following information on Philip Eugene Chapin:
He was born in New Hartford, CT, Dec. 1, 1838, a son of Hermon and Catherine (Merrill) Chapin of New Hartford.
He married (1) Amelia Jane Bushnell, Jan 18, 1866 in New Hartford. She was b. March 23, 1847, Greenfield, NY and d. Feb. 14, 1878, New Hartford.
They had the following children:
1. Anna Louise, b. Dec. 10, 1875; d. May 6, 1881, Johnstown, PA
2. Katherine M., b. Dec. 10, 1875; d. Sept. 20, 1872 [sic]
3. William Bushnell, b. June 10, 1868; d. March 9, 1914, Washington, DC
4. Maurice Eugene, b. May 5, 1872.

Philip Eugene Chapin m[2] Anna Stackhouse Morrell Dec. 1, 1880, Johnstown, PA She was b. Jan. 14, 1850, Philadelphia.
They had:
5. Susan Morrell, b. Oct. 26, 1882

"Mr. Chapin was a manufacturer of machinery and bolts. Succeeded to part interest in his father's business in New Hartford, Conn., but soon withdrew to establish a factory of his own. At the death of his first wife he removed to Cleveland, O., where his older brother George resided. He started a bolt factory. When he again married, he became general manager of the Cambria Iron Co., of Johnstown, Pa., of which his father-in-law (Morrell) was president. After the great Johnstown flood he retired from business and removed to Washington, D. C."

There are obviously some problems with dates associated with his children by Amelia Bushnell, but I hope this helps.
