I have been researching my great grandmother, Viola Gilbert Chapin for some time now. I just found out that her stepsister was Lena Gilbert. I know that Viola must have been adopted into this family, as she definitely was full blood native american. Anyone who knows anything about this Gilbert family, please let me know. married a Chapin, then married Benjamin Isaac Scouten. They spent their married lives in Homer/Cortland area.
