Yes, I learned about your Charles T. Carter from researcher Marty Restivo. Marty has done a lot of good work on his Carter line. It was the match with Hartwell Carter that convinced me that "J2" was a real possibility as the Y-DNA for Giles Carter. Prior to the match I had dismissed it as a fluke since "J2" is rare (only 3.5% in England).
But it is still not known how Hartwell Carter was related to Theodrick Carter.
I'm not sure that the Charles Carter in the first record below is your Charles Carter. It could be a different Charles Carter.

> Since Giles Carter, Sr. of Henrico County, Virginia is listed as one of their five "Carter Patriots", back in February I wrote to The Carter Society and asked them if they had information on the Y-DNA for Giles Carter. I was told that they did and was sent (by email) the info for Kit # 120155 "R1a". While reviewing the information from The Carter Society, I discovered that Kit # 120155 is a descendant of Giles Carter, Sr. of Henrico County, Virginia but not by his direct paternal line. There was a Carter-Carter marriage in his tree and it was the wife in the Carter-Carter marriage who was known to be a descendant of Giles Carter. However, cousin marriages were common back then and it is possible that the husband in the Carter-Carter marriage was also a descendant of Giles Carter but the husband's line has not yet been identified back to Giles Carter. So, I consider "R1a" to be a strong possibility for the correct Y-DNA of Giles Carter, Sr. of Henrico County, Virginia bu!

> Regarding the "Q" part; back in February The Carter Society was claiming (on their website) that my ancestor, Thomas Carter, Sr. of Goochland County, Virginia (who is known to be Y-DNA Haplogroup "Q") was a son of Giles Carter, Sr. of Henrico County, Virginia. They have since rescinded that claim and updated their website.
