Am looking for info on a Hicks that changed their name to Buckman sometime during the civil war. From what I understand, the family he belonged to were (Quakers?). To save disgrace from family for fighting in the war he changed his name to Buckman. My g grandfathers name was either James or John who emigrated to Canada in the 1880's. I understand that it was his father that changed the name.
