FYI, I posted this on the Boone List regarding Lewis Grimes, son of James Grimes and Sarah Bryan.

Lewis Grimes' oldest sister Nancy Bryan Grimes is my gggg grandmother..she married Terry Bradley January 8, 1805 in Fayette Co., KY and then moved to Randolph Co., MO by 1830.

I consulted the Bradley, Boone, Bryan, Gibson, Grimes Manuscript by Elsie Dixon, and she also lists Lewis Grimes as being born about 1808. She shows (and I see this also listed on-line with Madison Co., KY Marriage records) that he married Ruth Embry on January 20, 1829 in Madison Co., KY with Jacob Embry as bondsman. According to Mrs. Dixon, Ruth Embry was born April 24, 1812 and was the "9th child of Joel Embry and 3rd by 2nd wife, Mary Ann (Booton) Embry.

Children for the Lewis & Ruth Grimes in Dixon's Manuscript are listed as follows: Sally Anne Grimes m. James Beazley; Thomas Grimes (Unmarried); W. Scott Grimes b. Feb. 23, 1836; d. Nov. 20, 1863; Jacob J. Grimes b. abt. 1847; d. age 7 in Aug. 1854 in Fayette Co. - "Cause Flux" (Fayette Co. Vital Statistics.); & three other unnamed children.

I find Lewis Grimes in Fayette Co., KY census records for 1830 and 1840. I cannot locate him in 1850, but then find a Louis Grimes with wife Ruth in Platte Co., Missouri as follows:

Ancestry.com:
Name: Louis Grimes
Age in 1860: 50
Birth Year: abt 1810
Birthplace: Kentucky
Home in 1860: Carroll, Platte, Missouri
Gender: Male
Louis Grimes 50
Ruth Grimes 48
Thomas Grimes 28
Mary L Grimes 16
Walter Grimes 14
Luther Grimes 11
Ruth Grimes 7

So, looks like he was in Platte Co., MO, but I can't seem to locate him after this date. Platte County includes a portion of the city limits of Kansas City today and where the international airport is located. Platte Co., MO also shares a border with Kansas. With the brutality of the Border War (during the Civil War), it's possible he and his family left the area (or may have been killed during the war).

I do see Luther Grimes in Cass Co., MO in 1880...looks like it's Lewis Grimes' son. Cass is south of Kansas City.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

David

Does anyone have birth/death dates for Lewis? He is said to be born about 1808, and to have helped administer his father's estate in 1828.

Thanks,
Kathryn
