One of my ggrdmothers was a Gish so I have followed the family closely.
John Jefferson Groshong and Mary Elizabeth Gish, dau of Peter Nead Gish and Susan Nininger, had five children: Muriel b 1889, Noel b 1894, John b 1895, Estella b 1897 and Mary b ca 1899.

>From the McLouth [KS] Times for 4-3-1903:
"GROSHONG. Mary E Gish Groshong was born in
Oskaloosa January 5, 1870. She moved to Meriden
with her parents when only a child, where she lived
until she was married to John J Groshong Thanksgiving
Day 1888. She united with the German Baptist Church
and soon after moved with her husband to McLouth,
where she lived until her death March 26, 1903.
"She leaves her husband, her mother and father, five
children, a sister Mrs Glynn, and two brothers [one of
whom was Bert Gish] to mourn her death.
"The funeral was Friday at the Dunkard Church, Rev
Brunton of Ozawkie preaching the sermon, and burial
was in the McLouth Cemetery.
"(On the same page was this: Mrs. John Bowman kindly
took the little baby girl left by the dath of Mrs. Groshong.")
The only Mrs John Bowman at McLouth in my files is Paulina Shoemaker Bowman
(b 1853, d/o Daniel and XX Eby Shoemaker),
who married John H Bowman (1851-1919), s/o Abraham Leib Bowman and Barbara
G Hoerner Bowman. The Bowmans had six
children of their own, plus (in the 1900 census) a then four-year-old
"lodger" named Ethel Myers. This was before the death
of Mrs. Groshong. Does anybody know the name of the Groshong baby?
