Hi Richard,
Johann Michael Miller died in 1771 in Frederick County, Maryland. He is
living there at that time of his death because he is still paying taxes on a
few acres of land. His son Lodowick is the one who went to Rockingham
County, Virginia. I am not an expert on that line, by any means, but I am in
the process of doing a summary of Johann Michael and his sons as best I can
in Pennsylvania and Maryland and there is no evidence I've ever seen that
even suggests that Johann Michael was in Virginia. As I understand the
scenario, Lodowick immigrated there about the time of the Revolutionary War
and he may have lost his land, or some of it at least, as a result of
refusing to take the loyalty oath and being suspected of being a Tory. To
be convinced of anything else, I'd have to see something concrete, like
deeds or wills or tax lists or something that not only has the name Michael,
but tells me that it's the original Johann Michael Miller, not another one.
Having said that, if anything like this exists, I'd love to see it!
Roberta

Can anyone verify whether any of the Brethren Millers in Rockingham Co. and
Shenandoah Co. Virginia were descended from the Michael and Susan Agnes
(Bectel) Miller family of Virginia? I had a recent e-mail from someone on
this list that he claimed Michael and Susan Agnes (Bectel) Miller were
themselves there, or at least owned land there, as well as a son Jacob. I
wonder if this was another Michael and Jacob Miller however. If their names
were on land records as grantors of land I would like to know whether the
names of their wives would be on those records to help prove they were the
same men who had lived before in Maryland.
Richard
