Subject: [BRE] Elder John Wise questions

Could someone list or discuss the accomplishments of Elder John Wise (born
1812) ? (or the other 2 Wise sons and their father).

I only know his beginning biography for Elder John Wise, which is:
He was born in 1812 in (West Bethlehem Twp.?)
Although 10 years younger, he was what I call a peer preacher (they served
during the same time) with Rev. Daniel Lane who was born 1810.
The parents of both of these men knew first-hand the main leaders of the
Brethren in Frederick Co MD.

Both men spent their beginning lives in the "German Baptist Church at Ten
Mile" aka Ten Mile Church of the Brethren.
The parents of both men were involved in building the first and a second
church.
They lived during the time when their own church name changed many times,
both within the church and in the community, such as:
-- Society of... -- Fraternal Society of... --Fraternity of... --
(simply) German Baptist(s)... -- the plain people -- Dunkard
congregation...
--Dunkard(s)... --Brethren... and finally, "... Church of the Brethren"
Both had contact with congregation members spread over 3 counties.

John Wise was a beautiful orator. Though I don't know his main topics; what
was he passionate about?
Rev. Daniel Lane supposedly had less calling, or was less vocal about his
religious ideas.
Both would have been involved in the 1866 District meeting; Daniel Lane was
appointed to attend.

While Daniel remained a Rev./preacher, John Wise went on to become an Elder.
I know Wise went to Illinois--- was he also part of other churches in other
States?
Daniel Lane stayed in South Strabane Twp. His sons and grandsons became
deacons in the church.
Lane's son lived in the 1st "parsonage" for the 2nd church.

What impact did Elder Wise have in shaping the direction of "Churches of the
Brethren" in SW PA or elsewhere?
How was his leadership different than other leaders?
Why is John Wise an important figure in the Church of the Brethren for SW PA
or other locations?

Every person has a "story" -- what they did, how they lived, how they
impacted others... I'm missing most of
the story for Elder John Wise. What qualities made him advance in
leadership?

If I could get background about his father and brothers too, that would be
great.

Judy
