Find-A-Grave has become the place to look for online tombstone photos. Often
they include a Google map of the location.

Sometimes descendants are the contributor and include family comments, even
obituaries and personal photos. Sometimes it is just a name and date. Like
anything online sometimes the information is wrong. You can leave comments
and send corrections to the contributor.
The quality varies depending on who took the photos, type of camera, whether
they use a tripod, whether in focus, sometimes just the names, etc. You can
request photos if there are none to your liking and someone will usually
fulfill your request. One this week was just a couple hours - even had snow
on ground, other times it takes several weeks. Some photos leave a bit to be
desired.
I still prefer to visit ancestor cemeteries and take my own photos as well
as visit their homes/farms myself. But when it is a relative, too distant to
travel, or I won't make it anytime soon, any photo is better than none.

The first time we went back to Preble and Union County, we couldn't find
Railsback cemetery. The second time we found where it was but the field was
planted with corn, I think, but the field was very muddy to walk through
with millions of mosquitoes just waiting for a good meal, so we gave up.
Luckily, another relative was able to make it back and took photos of my
ancestors who are buried there. I live in California and don't know if we
will ever get back there again.
