I'm a descendent of James Allison of Bedford County, who died about 1797
based on his will.

Based on an 1887 chronicle on the Allison family, James was born in Ulster
(Northern Ireland), immigrated to Jamaica as an indentured servant, and then
immigrated to Chester County, PA pretty much penniless. From Chester
County he is believed to have moved to Cumberland County, and then moved to
Bedford County about 1790. A James Allison is found on a 1753 Chester
County poormans listing.

How accurate this information is may be questionable, since Allison is a
common name in early records. James has no Brethren association that I'm
aware of, but he lived in an area inhabited by Quakers, and his descendents
married Quakers or were Quaker. The Allison I'm descended from married
after the Civil War a descendent of the Beissel family of Ephrata, although
at the time of this marriage the Beissel's were Evangelical's (Jacob
Albright's denomination). One thing I do know for sure is that the 1730
birth in Bedford County is bogus, since there were no white settlers in that
region in the 1730's, with the exception of an occasional hunter or trapper.
