Terry,

While that is not what we call a very glamorous job, I have done that to pay
the bills for the last 5 years. I had worked for 2 different companies. A
lot of the counties in PA are digitalizing the records kept at the court
houses, especially the deeds. I have worked on Montgomery, Lawrence,
Indiana and some in Texas. So I do believe what you have done is very
important.

While not very glamorous, when I have been indexing newspaper births and
obituaries, I use Excel.  I set up the categories, widen the cells to fit
the size of the entry, list last name, first name, page it can be found on,
and other data.  When done, I save it and then sort the data by last name.  
Multiple entries could be entered for variations of spellings and names. 
The print out then is alphabetized and organized and can either be copied
and pasted into the word doc or retyped.
