I think it may have been common. In the Chippewa Congregation of Wayne
County, Ohio there was such a divider and the men and women sat on separate
sides of the room. The men and women also had separate entrances. The
question that I would like to raise, however, is when did this become the
custom in at least some meetinghouses, because surely they didn't separate
themselves to this degree when they were meeting in private homes and barns?
Anyone have any insight into this?
