There are two Church of The Brethren located in and close to Cerro Gordo,Illinois.As soon as I purchased a computer I was so very interested in studying all about the brethren especially the ones from The Oakley Brick Church and Cerro Gordo.Most of my information is taken from the Book"Church of The Brethren in Southern Illinois written by Minnie S Buckingham in 1950. Oakley Brick was the home Church of a very dear minister friend of mine as well as my family whom I was privilege to have as our Minister
and Elder in Southern Ohio when I was a youth.In April of 1856 two ministers came to this locality:Leonard Blickenstaff who I believe was the grandfather of my Spiritual Dad and Peter Replogle from Tippecanoe County Indiana and Carroll County Indiana.
This church was known as the Sangamon Valley Church until some time later it was discovered there was another congregation with the same name.So the name Cerro Gordo,Macon County was chosen.From this small beginning sprang the surrounding congregations:Milmine,LaPlace,and Cerro Cordo,Piatt County.In 1867 a large meeting house was built,two and a half miles west
of Cerro Gordo.I also believe there is a Brethren Church pretty close.
