Morning Norma,

Thank you for the link to Pinecrest. And I totally agree with the concept
of helping our own. There not being a Brethren church or organization
around where I live here in New Jersey, Momma and I do it a little
different. Case in point. A friend of ours mother died last spring. In
going thru her stuff our friend found bags of yarn for knitting which he was
going to throw away. Momma and I beat feet to his door, collected the trash
bags, and carted it down to our local state run old folk's home. The
ladies, and one old gentleman, just loved it to death.

One little old lady was so sweet we gave her our little organ I had to buy
(it had been my mother's) at my step-father's auction. It was sitting here
in my closet going to waste and now has a loving home. I know the lady will
treasure it as she had to give up her big one when she went into the
retirement home. The only condition is that she not sell it but instead
give it away when she can no longer play it. I even gave her some spare
tubes for the amplifier.

The gist of my reply to your Pinecrest link is to say that we can all help
in whatever little way we can - it all adds up. You know that deal whereby
your local mega-chain grocery chain gives you a free turkey or ham after you
spend a set amount? We take ours and give it to the local VFW for the old
timers. Momma and I even one year went to the local VFW and brought one
feller home to spend Christmas Day with us. He loved it and until he died
we would once or twice a year pick him up and take him out to lunch. He
used to pay a cab to take him back and forth to the restaurant. A real
gentleman!

And for that matter you don't necessarily have to go to a church to be a
Christian. The next time you are out driving back where you were raised and
pass the old country church where your family attended for generations,
think about them - those little churches are fast disappearing for wont of
funds and people. Drop twenty dollars into the mail slot or slip it under
the door. You won't miss it and they could use it. I remember a
conversation my dear, sainted Great Uncle Jake (Carl Edward Moyer, Jr.) and
I had several years ago before he passed away.

He had attended church for over thirty years but became disillusioned with
the ministerial body. He took himself, and one of our treasured family
bibles (he gave it to me the fall before his house burnt to the ground), and
would every morning at 5:00 a.m. head to the basement and spend an hour
reading the Bible. He is, or rather was, one of those rare men I have known
who I can truly say lived a Christian Life and never judged others. Even
more so than his brother who for a time was a minister. Can we not say
therefore that Uncle Jake was not a religious man? Only the Almighty can
answer that and we must never judge others. I know there must be Scripture
to that effect somewhere in the Bible. OK Mr. Moderator, my apologies for
getting religious.

Each year we hold our Moyer reunion in a church, the State Road U.M.E.
Church in Montgomery County, Ohio, that our family helped to found. As part
of our reunion activities we collect over $100.00 each year to assist them
and we get to use the basement for three or four hours. They appreciate it
and the ladies are so dear. Remember this - "Actions Speak Louder than
Words." And this also applies to those who have so graciously volunteered
with mending tissue for the Gospel Messenger project. It will not go to
waste!

I would like to help when I get an address. This is important
information.

After our home congregations and para-church organizations, then
important

services like preserving heritage, I'd like to also plug wonderful
agencies

like Pinecrest in Mt. Morris. Illinois is having a terrible time paying
its

medical obligations, and they are coming up $4200 a day short for their

Medicaid patients.
