The book "Families of Hancock County, Illinois A Biographical History" was
compiled by the Hancock County Historical Society 2004.

Published by Family Heritage Publishers, 160 West 2950 South Salt Lake City,
UT 85225. The books are available from the Hancock Co. Hist. Soc.

The Mack family entries were submitted by Ellen M. Early.( descendant of
David)

The following is quoted:

Mack, David, was the descendant of Alexander Mack who was born in the state
of Baden in the town of Schriesheim. His father was a miller there.
Alexander was a Calvinist, but he began to study the scriptures independent
of creed. He faced intolerance in Schriesheim. He and his brother had
heard of the town of Schwartzenau, which they felt would be more tolerant.
Therefore, they and their families moved there in 1706. In 1708, Alexander
and four men and three women decided they should form a new church by
baptism so they were all baptized in the River Eder at Schwartzenau. Some
of the group emigrated to Germantown PA in 1719. Mack led part of the group
to Holland in 1719 but in1729 followed to Germantown where he died in 1736.
The church was popularly known as the Dunkards. It is now known as the
Church of the Brethren.

One of Alexander Mack's son was William Mack, who served in the
Revolutionary War. His son, Alexander II, lived in Adams Co. PA and married
Susannah Fisher. David Mack, one of their six children, was born in May
1819. After moving to IL, he studied law in Springfield with a former law
partner of Abraham Lincoln. There he met Augusta Henriette Ulrich and in
1851 they were married. They lived in Carthage IL where David Mack
practiced law until has death in 1897. Augusta his wife, died in 1912.
Their home was built around 1861 on West Wabash St. in Carthage.

The sketch also includes descendants of David Mack and another entry
regarding Augusta Henriette (Ulrich) Mack, a descendant of Johanu Henrich
Ulrich of Jena, Germany who was a Dr. of . Philosophy at the University of
Jena. Married Martha Paulssen. Their second child, August Louis Ulrich, was
educated at the University of Jena. Met and married Henrette Von
Reisenkampff in 1814. This family came to America in 1821. Apparently first
lived in NJ and NY where August Ulrich died in 1841. Henriette moved her
family to Springfield, IL where she purchased 80 acres. Her daughter Augusta
Henriette Ulrich, married David Mack in 1851
