I am hoping that someone can help me find a link in my family tree that I have been searching for for over a year. I spent all day Wednesday and the Library at the Brethren headquarters in Elgin. I found a wealth of information about the person that I think was my fifth great-grandfather, George Hoke. He is mentioned in several places in the history of the Brethren, so I found a lot of great information. Unfortunately I didn’t find anything about exactly who his children or parents were. In particular I am looking for their names, where they were born, and their dates of birth.
Here is the information that I found on George Hoke.
Born 1783 in Pennsylvania
Moved to Mahoning County, Ohio in the first decade of the nineteenth century
Married Christina Mellinger in 1805, had nine children, 4 daughters and 3 sons
Was elected to the ministry in 1812 and ordained the eldership in 1822 in the Mill Creek or Mahoning congregation.
Moved to the Canton congregation and resided there from 1826 to 1844
Then lived with the East Nimishillen congregation until 1852
Lived the rest of his life in the Dickey church in Ashland County
Died June 23, 1861 in Ashland County he had 4 daughters and 3 sons.
Any help that anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Dan Blake
