The north had a good railroad system during and (here) following the
Civil War. Also, the National Road (US 40) went through these areas -
and was heavily used. Also, Franklin Co PA is on the Forbes Road (now
US 30) -east from Pittsburg. There were steamboats up the Ohio River to
Pittsburg. There was plenty of transportation.
