There was also a huge reform movement within the Presbyterian population at
the time the Brethren were moving west. Many "Reformed" congregations sprung
up in the same areas where Brethren followers were found. Here is a link to
an interesting look into that part of the westward migration story. I found
this information while trying to learn more about the Brethren settlement of
Cabin Creek, KY.

That was my assumption of what the case was.

One correction regarding Zwingli and Calvin. Zwingli started the
Reformation in Switzerland, but the theology of the Reformed Church is
Calvinistic. Calvin was still a Roman Catholic living in France when
Zwingli died in 1531. The term "Reformed" relates to reforming Lutheranism,
not Catholicism. The Anabaptist's have roots in Zwingli, when two of his
protégé's Conrad Grebel and Felix Mantz parted ways with Zwingli over
baptism.
