Thanks Jim. It's been a struggle to figure out how and when the Mantle/Montel branch became Dunkard. Frederick Eltzroth married the daughter of Hessian Soldier Christopher Mantle. Obviously, Christopher was not German Baptist when he arrived in New York to fight for the King of England.
We do know that Christian Holderman and Christopher Mantle became close friends in Virginia, and when the Holderman family moved to Lanier Twp, Preble County, the Mantle family moved to the same locale at the same time. Another Mantle daughter later married a Holderman son. (Christopher's son John Montel married Susan, the daughter of Jacob Wolf, about whom much is known and published.)
If anyone well-steeped in Preble County history has any additional information on this, particularly with regard to ties of the Holderman, Mantle, Black, Tinkle, and/or Eltzroth families to early Dunkard congregations in Preble County, would be much appreciated.
