Location of Antietam:
The stream (not large enough to be called a river) flows out of Franklin
Co. in southern Penna (small tributaries) into Maryland in Washington County
and continues clear across Maryland (only ca. 25 miles) and empties into the
Potomac River, which serves as the southern Maryland state line at this
location.
The Battle of Antietam in the Civil War was fought in the Sharpsburg
area, south of Hagerstown, Md. all in Washington county Maryland.
