Yes, that is who I am referring to. I am a descendant through John's
daughter Mary "Polly" who married Abraham Flory. I agree that not all
the early family histories were reliable, especially the ones
published as County Histories from about 1885 to 1915.

But what I'm hoping to find precedes those dates by nearly 100 years
or more. As I ask around, it seems that there is a barrier at John
Vaniman: no one has offered any solid information on where he was
born or who his parents were. Then, this other piece of information
suggested we were looking in the wrong place for the wrong name,
which is not at all unusual in genealogical research, I know.
