Response to Wayane,
The Daniel Arnold that you associate with the daate 1824 in your first
question is of a different generation from George Adam Martin (d. 1794), and
not the one associated with him. This also answers question 3 if I
understand your question.
Regarding your comments about the Lancaster vs. Maryland Arnolds. I am
sure you are aware that two John George Arnolds (both from Zuzenhousen)
immigrated to Philaladelphia Port, one in 1737 on the Ship Townsend and in
1738 on the Ship Eliaabeth, both with wives and children. Both being from
Zuzenhousen, a relatively small community, they were undoubtedly related.
The Arnolds traditionally were strong Reformed people, but when John George
and his wife became associated with the Brethren (a forbidden sect) their
records no longer went into the Reformed Church. I believe it was Werner
Hacker (I didn't look this up) who suggested that our John Goerge Arnold
family had become associated with a forbidden sect in Germany.
Such an association amounted to a rejection from the Reformed Church and
from good standing in Reformed families. These feelings were strong in
Germany and some of these attitudes were carried to the new World. The
Barth whom came to Pa. were Reformed, and they neither would have much
interest in associating with Dunkers. Besides, both transportation and
communication were major obstacles in the middle 1700s.
Perhaps these observations regarding religious, social, and geographical
context can help overcome your smelling probleml!!
Emmert
