Merle,

When on a trip to Spencer County KY, some one in the Court House told us
that one man seemed to have a good understanding of the land: who had
lived where, and where boundaries had been. This was an employee of one of
the county offices involved in surveying. We didn't seek him out because
the land we wanted to see is under the Taylorsville lake now. I don't know
if you will get into Spencer, though you might find the elk Creek Church is
over the border from Nelson into Spencer. Since KY land was sold by metes
and bounds instead of congressional townships, finding the exact location
of land is hard. I hope you can find a similar knowledgeable person in
each county.

You might want to find the county historians also. John Lilly is probably
still historian for Spencer Co, but I don't know others.

There are quite a few old original records and indexes in the basement of
the administration building in Nelson Co. Some very old deeds exist in
that location. The genealogy section of the Nelson Co library is better
than some.
