The Antietam Creek is between the Cloister {Nunnery} and the Church. You
walk across the bridge into
the church. Doris

Hi, I previously found some ancestors in the Upper Antietam Hundred area of
Maryland in 1790. Does anyone know which Brethren church or churches have
served that area at that time?

Merle C Rummel <> wrote:Yes - Antietam Creek begins at
the Potomac River, runs up the east side
of Hagarstown MD to near Waynesboro PA. There were various Brethren
Families all along the Creek. The Antietam Battlefield (Civil War)
centered at the (later) Antietam Meetinghouse there -and almost
destroyed it (it blew down in a windstorm later). The National Park has
rebuilt the building, under Brethren supervison. The Conococheague
River ran the other side of Hagarstown -from the Potomac up into
Pennsylvania. It was another very early Brethren settlement, both
starting about 1750. The Great Warriors Path came down through the
Conococheague and the Valley of Virginia to Tennessee and Kentucky.
