Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

The location that I have for Jacob Neff's land is in Green Twp., Hamilton
Co., OH. which is on the west side of the present city of Cincinnati, OH.
It is # 6 on the following map;
http://www.hamilton-co.org/hcrpc/data/maps/street/

The farm was located the east half of NW Sec 11 T2, Fr R 2 Green Twp,
Hamilton Co., OH.

My understanding is that Jacob and Catherine's 94 and 1/2 acres lay on the
east side of the northwest quarter of section 11 of Green Twp, Hamilton Co.,
OH.

I assume the twps are numbered as follows: Section 1 is in the northeast
corner of the twp then count west 6 sections, drop down and count back 7 to
12, etc:
6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1
7, 8, 9, 19, 11, 12
18, 17, 16, 15, 14, 13
19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24
30, 29, 28, 27, 26, 25
31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36

A section of land is 1 mile square and has 640 acres. The North West quarter
would have 160 acres and east half of the north west quarter would be 80
acres. Evidently a creek ran through that quarter and Jacob's east side of
the north west quarter had 92 and 1/2 acres.

If this is the true survey of Green Twp., section 11 is in the northeast
corner of Green Twp. But some twps are bigger than 36 sections square,
because of natural lines like rivers. As I look at Green Twp., it appears
bigger than 36 sections square. The T2, Fr R 2 in the description above
means something and it seems to tell me that there are at least 2 section
11s in Green twp. I'd have to look at the survey map of Green Twp to know
for sure what section 11 is referred to in the above description.

The 3 places you mentioned in your e-mail below, namely Sharonville,
Loveland and Camp Dennison, are northeast of Cincinnati, in the northeast
corner of Hamilton, Co. OH. So "in horse and buggy days" of the 1820s,
Jacob lived a distance from the Brethren Communities that you listed.
Perhaps you have a better survey map of Green Twp that can better pin point
the location of Jacob's property.

Thanks for your interest in Neff research.

John Murray
