Sometimes migration was based on occupation; example coal miners moved a lot.
I don't think anyone will ever be able to fully answer why their families
moved to particular places (unless a first hand account or family story gives
clues).

I wondered why some of my Brethren moved to Glendora CA about 1911. We knew
one of our families Brethren Minister was living in Florida as a winter home
and summer-ed in PA. Well, after all these years of researching different
families I found a new fact last week: the Florida-PA Brethren minister went to CA
in 1910 and was teaching at a Brethren College there -- so it is possible
that other family members heard his reports of how nice California was and they
then decided to move there. Although this is only a guess, it is a better
explanation than our previous guesses that only had our families arbitrarily
deciding to move to CA for no reason.

I still don't know how or why the Minister made his way to CA. He did not
stay there but returned to his life in PA and Florida.

Now that I've introduced my new piece of info, can anyone fill me in on this
College?
1910 California, Los Angeles county, San Jose Twp., Lordsburg City
Lordsburg College
ED 328 sheet 10A page 50
address: 3rd Street
Bail, Samuel W. age 43 b.Pa. (father: Pennsyl.was written
and erased and Ohio written in), mother b. Pa.; occup:teacher,
physical (word is unreadable); marriage 1; married 22 years
Bail, Maggie: age 42 marriage 1, married 22 yrs, 1 child
born/1living; b.Pa and so were parents; listed as boarder
Bail, J.Gayman age 10 ; listed as boarder, b. Pa. (J. Gayman Bail was their
son.)

Sam W. Bail's employment at this College was not listed in his Mististerial
Record which is at Eligin, ILL. Maybe Sam (S.W.) forgot or overlooked his CA
stay or thought it was insignificant when he filled out the papers? Or maybe
his job at the College was unrelated to Ministerial work?

I guess I'll have to wait until I find a new clue that might answer the new
questions.

Judy
