Todd,

You know, you bring up a good point. One of my biggest difficulties is
finding the correct parents of John Lane (Sr) b. where? ca. 1780??? (year
based on Apprentice record in Orphan's Court) , living in Frederick Co MD in
1794 as an apprentice to Martin GARVER, and the record states John Lane is
age 14 "age 15 Jan 1st next"..."with no parents living in this state." This
makes it sound like John LANE's parents are alive (?) but just not residing
in MD (?) which corresponds to the biographical record saying our John left
his parents because they owned slaves; the record says they were from
Philadelphia (?). SOoooo, my problem is: WHO were John LANE's parents,
whether living in PA, VA, MD or <shrug> maybe they were still overseas?? who
knows! We have a few "ideas" where our John LANE **might** fit, including
***maybe*** in the family of John and Peter LEHN (???) of MD and York/Adams
Co, PA, or, maybe in a LANE family living in Bedford Co, PA, (??) or another
one in VA (??). Until I learn the names of his parents, I am very stuck!!!

My incomplete generations for LANE are:
parents: who?
lived : where?
father: served Rev War (biographical record)
mother: no info at all
background: Scots-Irish (bio record)
family owned land in "downtown Philadelphia" (bio record and family stories)
father supposedly owned and operated either a mill? or a mine? in
Fred co MD (family story)
# of children: unknown
faith: unknown
parents possibly owned slaves (bio record)

one son was:
John LANE (Sr.)
b. ? ca 1780 ? where? (birth year from Orphan's Court rec.- Apprentice -
"will be
age 15 Jan. 1st next"
living in MD in 1794 as apprentice to Martin GARVER with
"no parents in this state" (Orphan's Court)
first child John JR born Mar. 1804 (1804, before marriage if correct in John
JR's Bible record !)
married Jan. 23, 1805 Fred Co MD to Catherine BAKER, daug of Joseph and Mary
__unk maiden___ BAKER (BAKER was German or Dutch and our John LANE seemed
surrounded by German families - some from Brethren & some from Lutheran
church)
second child Joseph LANE born 1807
BAKER family moves to Washington Co PA by Oct. 1809 (Road Petition, same
county) where it shows John LANE as a petitioner for road onto Joseph Baker's
property
third child (Rev./Brother) Daniel LANE b. Nov. 1810 (one record says in
Philadelphia but NO proof)
1810 Census - we believe LANE living in Jos. Baker's home
1812 - John LANE (Sr) supposedly served in WAR of 1812 (?) (bio record)
John (SR) LANE listed as member Ten Mile COB under "members before 1838" (no
idea when membership roll was begun though)
(other documentations for his life until his death)
1820 ? Mary A. LANE born
Dec. 22 or 24, 1844 - John LANE SR dies in W. Bethlehem Twp, Wash Co PA (from
Obit and several Bibles of several family branches; each Bible begins with
"John Lane, SR" with dates at the top of Bible pages) - No Will. No help from
his Account record, nor any info in the sale of his land in Estate
proceedings.
(John Lane Sr's wife had supposedly died in 1822 (that DAR Record with some
correct facts & some wrong facts)...but no proof....and...in 1840 census,
after his first 3 boys are already married & left home, there is still an
older woman living in the home of John LANE Sr. Who is she?????????

So, you see, I don't have much to work with. We chase down every lead we can
find!
If you see anything I could look into further, PLEASE email me! It doesn't
matter to me if I ever get into the DAR or not, I'd just like to find out who
my John LANE Sr's parents were! I'm hoping our John did not just fall off a
turnip truck nor was dropped accidentally from a stork too tired to fly
anymore!

Thanks!
Judy
