NEW VERSION OF THE OLD PLEASANT HILL BOOK

A new edition of the old, out-of-print "Pleasant Hill" book by Ethel
Harshbarger Weddle has been published by the Girard, Illinois,
Sesquicenennial Committee. This new edition is produced with large print
and it has 95 pages of old photos of the Brethren who were members of the
Pleasant Hill Church, in the Virden and Girard area of Macoupin County,
Illinois, from 1867 through 1912. The book also has an index to help
readers find their ancestors. Prominent surnames include: Brubaker,
Vaniman, Gibson, Stutsman, Snell, Shull, Riffey, Harshbarger, Frantz,
Filbrun, and other families migrating from Virginia and Ohio to Pleasant
Hill during the 1860s. The first elder of the Pleasant Hill Church was
Isham Gibson. Deacon (and later Elder) Jacob Brubaker was the architect for
the church and donor of the land for the cemetery. A list of the Brethren
buried at the cemetery is also included in the new edition.

The new book is published privately by the Girard Sesquicentennial Book
Committee of Girard, Illinois. Details of how to acquire a copy of the book
are given on the Macoupin County, Illinois, GenWeb page. The easiest way to
get to this page is to go to any good search engine and enter the words
Macoupin and GenWeb. The address of the Girard SQ Book Committee is 119
West Madison Street, Girard, IL 62640.
