The Jn. Georg Harter family also started out in Bedford County, moving to
Montgomery/Frederick County, MD about 1769. They then moved to Franklin
County VA between 1792 and 1794. The son who became my ancestor sold his
land here and moved across the ridge to Floyd County in 1802. Finally the
family sold their VA lands and moved to Darke and Preble Counties, Ohio
between 1805 and 1816. This seems to be the general path that Merle has
described as being the migration route of the Brethren. I suspect that many
other germans were migrating along the same path - And I may have just
answered my own question of how, why, and when many in the Harter family
became Brethren.

As to Becker ancestors, all I can say is Good luck! My mother descended
from Jn. Henry Becker, supposedly the nephew of Peter Becker, who was born
in crossing the Atlantic, supposedly in 1719. I was told that Henry's
father was Jn. George Becker. Unfortunately, Becker is not an unusual name
in the German community, and both Henry and George were quite common Becker
names. I looked for them in PA records, but became very frustrated very
quickly!
