Hi Dennis and List Members,
In 1855, Black River Brethren Church in Medina Co. was established by
members from the Mohican congregation. Jacob GARVER of the Mohican
congregation was given oversight of the Black River congregation until
1867. Samuel GARVER was one of the charter members of Black River and
was chosen elder in charge in 1874. If it would help you, I would be
happy to go through the book to try to find more GARVER information
(there is no index).
My gg grandparents, Frederick and Maria DAGUE were also charter members
of the Black River church. They had moved to the area before the church
was established and I am trying to learn which Brethren church in Wayne
Co. Frederick DAGUE grew up in. His parents were Frederick DAGUE and
Catherine HARSH DAGUE who lived in Milton Twp. on Rt. 604, a couple miles
west of Rt. 57 in Wayne Co. Does anyone on the list know which Brethren
congregation would have been closest to them during the years, 1819 -
1867? (1867 is the year that the elder Frederick Dague died in Wayne
Co.). Would it have been Mohican or was there another church closer to
their area?
I would be tremendously grateful for any help in locating the Wayne Co.
church where my family were members during those years.
