Were any houses with two doors in front built of wood? We have one here on
the west coast built by the Neher family, Brethren immigrants to Lordsburg,
California, (now La Verne) around 1908. House was divided in two vertically
so that each side had 1/2 front porch, door, and inside stairway to second
floor. House was scheduled to be bulldozed in the '60's but saved and
completely restored. It still has the two front doors, which are pointed out
to 3rd graders on annual "Hands 'On' History" tours. It seems to be the only
2-door house in town. I believe Nehers were from Indiana.
