Doug and Peg,
There are other who can speak to the theology aspects much more
precisely than I. What I can tell you is that the Church of the
Brethren along with the Quakers and Mennonite are three of the main
peace churches. Simply stated the teaching is to NOT take human life.
To that end I know that at least during W.W.II, the Korean and Vietnam
"conflict" young men of draft age were urged to be conscience
objectors. During those periods our government "generally" recognized
the conscience objectors of these three denominations. In place of
fighting most were "allowed" to serve their three years in a
humanitarian position. Some were still drafted and I think most were
allowed to serve in medical units.
