Dear Merle, It may interest you to know that George DANNER, Sr., his son
George and sons Jacob and John, along with some daughters, left Rowan County,
N. C. and moved on to Jessamine County, Ky. From that point on the records
give their last name as DONNER. I understand from the Jessamine county list
that there was a Brethren church there at that time, (they are there at the
time of the 1810 census) but no one seems to have found any of the church
records. By 1820 they start to spread out into Indiana - some to Jefferson
county and at least George, Jr. to Decatur County, Ind. About 1828 they
begin to appear in Sangamon County Illinois. In 1844 George Sr. died in
Springfield, I have not been able to locate his actual burial site, but do
have his obit from the Sangamo Journal. It is in 1846 that his sons, George
and Jacob, along with their families leave Springfield in April headed for
California and go down in history as the Donner Party. Jo Ann Brant Schmidt
in Houston, Tx.
