I am a new member of this list and would like to say it is a wonderful list
with seemingly many helpful folks. I believe my 5th great grandfather, Jacob
DANNER/TANNER and his sons were Brethren. Although they lived among the
Moravians, they were not of that faith, although one of the sons, Jacob, did
marry a Moravian girl, Catherine FISCHEL. In the records of the Moravians in
N. C. Volume II 1752-1775 I found the following: "Br. REUTER left day before
yesterday, already, as this week he is to survey 800 acres on the ENS near
Peter PFAFF, for SCHUTZ and TANNER, two Baptists from the Huwaren." I have
traced the DANNER/TANNER/DONNER family from Surry and Rowan counties in N. C.
to Jessamine county, Ky, to several Indiana counties and finally to Sangamon
County, Illinois. There are several county histories that say George
DANNER/DONNER, Sr. (son of Jacob) was a minister but do not clearly state
what demonimation. The daughter of George and Mary DONNER, Sr. married John
DICK in N. C. and eventually they also settled in Sangamon county, Illinois.
I have also read that John DICK was a minister in the Brethren Church in
Sangamon County, Illinois. I believe George DONNER Sr.'s wife was Mary HUFF,
daughter of Valentine HUFF who came to N. C. in 1876 from Md. I do not know
the faith of the HUFF family.
I would be very greatful if anyone has any information regarding these
families being members of the Brethren church. Thank you in advance.
