Jim Lewis:
Sorry I cant help you with your Shaffer members, but I am hoping you can
help me. My maternal g-g-grandparents (Jacob and Elizabeth
Shaffer/Shaeffer/Schaeffer/Shafer) [and I have seen all those spellings with
the names.] migrated to Preble County, Ohio during the civil war. Family
stories indicate it was because of their refusal to fight - and the
union/confederacy was battling on our land. Family moved -following family-
to Preble County. They were living in Rockingham county, VA. One of their
sons (John Shaeffer) married George V. Siler's daughter (George was one of
the spokesmen for the Old Order split in 1880.) I have traced the line of
John(since he was my g-grandfather.) Also know some of Moses Shaffer
(John's elder brother.)
Do you have any of these people in your research?
Thanks
James Brunk
