This is regard to the FLORY name whichI saw posted today, so thought I would
share with you John S. FLORY'S tribute upon the death of Rev. Samuel McCANN
of the Brethern Church. Would he be connected to any Flory's that are on-
line?

The Funeral services were conducted for Samuel (who was my grandfather's
brother, and son of Squire McCann and Roxanne Gould-McCann) by J.S.FLORY,
H.C.EARLY and H.G. MILLER. (From 2 Timothy 1.12.) The Service was held on the
College Campus at Bridgewater College in front of Founders Hall, which Samuel
had entered daily for many years. The crowds for the service was estimated to
be variously from 1500 to 2000.
His associates in the faculty carried him to his last resting place. His
faithful compaanion Elizabeth Gibbel-McCann and his two children mourn the
loss of a devoted husband and father. His son Henry is eighteen and his
daughter Mary thirteen. (note: His daughter Mary Roxanna who married had John
Wright passed away in 1940 ffollowing an operation for appenicitis. After
Mary's death, Elizabeth went to live with her son Henry in New York Henry
had two children, Donald and Catherine. Nothing further is known of this
family)
After Samueel's death Elizabeth McCann served as Dean of Women at Bridgewater
College for several years, one year at Blue Ridge College, and later as
assisant Dean at Elizabethan College for 11 years.
When she died, her body was taaken to Bridgewater to the home of her dear
friend DR. N.D. COOL where the funeral took place, as did Mary's. Rev. C.
HEASE conducted the service. Her friend, DR. John S. Flory preached the
funeral sermon. Dr. COOL assisted in the service. A quartet of young people
sang "Beneath The Cross of Jesus" and her faavorite hymm "Jesus Loves Me, This
I know: the latter being most appropriate for one wwho taaught little Indian
children to sing and love it. She is beside her husband and daughter Mary in
the beautiful Bridgewater Cemetery
