There have been a few mentions of Shaffer/Shafers lately. I don't have
anything to add, but would love to connect my gr gr grandmother, Catherine
Shaffer, to any of the families. We only know that she was born in PA
about 1803 and married George Ritter in Tuscarawas, OH in 1824. He was a
"dunkard minister" according to family tradition and the 1850 census (but
we've never found any mention of him in church histories), so it seems
likely that she was from a Brethren family also. She has long been a
genealogical dead-end and any clues would be appreciated.
